Writing and Vocabulary

Scholastic Story Starters:  Create story starters for student creative writing.

NaNoWriMo: Every November, NaNoWriMo challenges young writers to write a novel in 30 days.  Students set their own word number goal and submit their completed novels by November 30th.  As an educator, you can order a free classroom kit to help motivate and involve students.

Flocabulary:  Vocabulary + "rap" music.  The Word Up Project has leveled vocabulary- about 15 units per grade level.  This is a paid subscription ($99/year) but I love using it in my classroom!

Word Dynamo: Test and build vocabulary skills with the Word Dynamo Challenge.

Free Rice:  Build vocabulary skills, and each correct answer donates ten grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program.

Build vocabulary word clouds using Tagxedo or Wordle.

Spelling City:  Free resource (paid subscriptions available as well!) for making spelling or vocabulary lists.  Students can play games from home using assigned lists, plus students can take the tests on the website and print them all checked and ready to go!
