Finally Friday #9... Education News for your Summer Vacay

It's Finally Friday!!  If you're like me, then it's summer and all your days are running together and it's getting hard to remember what day of the week it is.  Vacation (+ moving across the country) has taken over my brain.

UpWorthy
I just love it!  Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated, but seeing this makes me excited for September!

Video here:

The Atlantic
A study from Harvard University showing that although parents feel they are teaching their children the importance of caring and showing empathy, children feel that their parents value success and achievement more.  This doesn't surprise me...thoughts?  Do we do this as teachers as well??  What does your school build in to the curriculum to support character education?

CBS News
According to the National Council on Teacher Quality (I didn't know there was a council for that?), only 1 in 15 schools is preparing first year teachers for the classroom.

WHO TV
I hate that we have to think like this, but this invention is interesting.

EdTech Magazine
Looking at the change in the role of the teacher, the way students interact with technology, and the traditional school day as we know it.  Change is coming!

Here are the incredible things I've been pinning:

A collection of general school ideas.

Links for tools, ideas, tricks, information and resources to help you teach.

In case you want it all and you want it delivered.  Here it is.

A weekly infographic to get you thinking.

Finally Friday #8

It's Finally FRIDAY!!  Fridays are busy but if you read this, you'll have something to talk about at happy hour.

I've been absent from this for a few weeks, so I've got a few interesting articles I've been sending myself... plus I've been pinning like a crazy person since school is out, so check it out.

Forbes
ICYMI, LeVar Burton wants to bring the Reading Rainbow app to all app based platforms + the internet, but not back to television where it had made it's debut years ago.  But maybe back on tv sometime... they aren't sure.   There's a lot they don't know yet, but they have money for it now.  I liked Reading Rainbow as a kid, so I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

HOT107.9 (I have reliable sources, ok?)

Because I'm a big fan of dancing at school.
If you want to skip the article, and just watch the video, here it is:

CNN
Sometimes the books we say are good and have children read just aren't what they are into.  I love that this is a list of books that kids are actually interested in reading, versus being told to read.  It's like Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards but for books.

National Geographic
Ok, kind of a boring one, but it's brief and fairly comprehensive addressing the major questions about what Common Core is and what the major support and criticisms are.  It's not an opinion piece on Common Core, which is kind of hard to find, so I thought I'd share.

It's a long one on the history of education, so I didn't post the whole thing because it wouldn't fit correctly.   Long infographic, but quick read!  Check it out by clicking below.

An update to tell you that I'm doing nothing

Our school year ended and I checked out.  I cleaned out the classroom, packed it up for the big move, and helped others move their classrooms around (new assignments in the building) and then I.was.done.  I haven't done anything remotely school related.

It helps that I don't have a job for next year yet.  There is nothing to plan for yet.  I have been interviewing.  So I guess that is school related.

But I haven't blogged.  I haven't even read blogs.  I have about 4000+ blogs in my Bloglovin' feed to read and the task is a bit daunting, so I'll probably make that my plan over the next few days.

What have I done?  Well I've been lunching.  I like to call it a "lady who lunches".  I have a friend that calls me a "lunch lady".  Not the same thing.  It's hard work trying to see everyone in town when you know you are moving 1800 miles away in a few short weeks.

That being said, I am on the go for a good chunk of time and don't know that I will be blogging often.  Please don't leave me.  I will be back once my life settles.  And in the meantime, I'll probably blog randomly so check back whenever I show up in your feed.

I hope you are almost done with school, or already done with school, and that your break is equally as exhausting (fabulous) as mine has been.

That being said, it's June!  So here's my rather boring Currently since, well you know, I'm kind of up in the air right now.
Things will start falling into place for my move to Seattle soon, but in the meantime I'm just enjoying the break and loving the free time.  It is a true break and it was much needed.

My bucket list was easy because my summer is already packed with wonderful adventures.  I'm doing a nine state tour over the next month, including travel and moving adventures, and they aren't even all connected (well, most of them are).  It will be fabulous and busy.  Then I will have a bit to make my new city my home before a new school year ramps up.  Let's do this.

Head on over to Farley's page to check out what everyone else is up to this month!
